Loan Types and Periods – Undergraduate and Graduate Students (On-Campus)
Loan types for BU/UFSC users are as follows:
- Regular: Standard loans. The loan periods for each type of material and user category are described in the table below;
- In-library consultation: Red-labeled materials intended for in-library consultation may be borrowed on Fridays or the day before holidays, to be returned on the next business day.
- Interlibrary: For items requested from a partner library¹ or from a branch library on another campus.
- Vacation: Vacation loans apply when items are borrowed at the end of the semester and returned only at the start of classes in the following semester. Vacation loans will be made as follows: Winter vacation (July): from one week before the start of the vacation until one week after the start of classes, according to the current academic calendar; Summer vacation (December-March): from two weeks before the start of the vacation until two weeks after the start of classes, according to the current academic calendar. Only items eligible for regular loans qualify for vacation loans2;
- Special: Special loans include language dictionaries borrowed for proficiency tests and other items in exceptional situations. In this case, the loan period will be recorded manually in the Pergamum system by the library staff according to the user’s needs and the item availability.
The total number of items borrowed may not exceed 32 items, across all Libraries, respecting the limits by user category and material type as shown in the table below. Exceptionally, in the Central Library, up to 10 books may be borrowed per location (Sirius, Vega, Bellatrix).
1 Loans between partner institutions are for in-library consultation only, in accordance with the interlibrary loan service rules.
2 Requests placed before the start of the vacation loan period will be maintained.
