:: DISCOVER THE LIBRARIES

The UFSC Library System comprises the Central Library and 11 branch libraries across all campuses:

Check each library’s address and opening hours here.

:: REGISTER TO USE

The UFSC Libraries (BU) are open to the public for visiting and using study spaces. However, some services –  such as borrowing books –  are available only to those with an active UFSC affiliation:

  • Undergraduate and graduate students (in-person or distance learning)
  • Colégio de Aplicação [Laboratory School] students
  • Faculty and staff (active or retired)
  • Substitute faculty members
  • Residency students and special students (enrolled in single courses)
  • Participants in exchange, postdoctoral, post-master’s programs, or programs under institutional agreements (EBSERH and NETI)
  • Graduates registered in the UFSC Alumni system.

If you are actively enrolled at UFSC, you likely already have a pre-registration with BU. To complete your registration, simply create a password before your first loan. This password will also allow you to renew loans and place requests.

:: EXPLORE THE COLLECTION

Each UFSC library has a collection that mainly covers the subjects taught in the academic programs it serves. You are welcome to visit and use all libraries, not only the one at your academic school. All BU books and other materials can be found in the Library OPAC – search by title, author, subject, and more.

Did you find the book you’re looking for? Write down its call number to locate it on the shelves. If you need help, just ask at any service desk or at the loan desk!

In addition to the print collection, we also offer a wide range of digital resources, accessible through the Institutional Repository, the Journal Portal, the Databases page, and the CAPES Periodicals Portal.

:: BORROW, RENEW & REQUEST

Individuals registered with BU can borrow books and other materials. Loan limits and periods vary depending on the material, the type of loan, and your affiliation with UFSC.

  • Graduate students, medical residency students, distance-learning undergraduate students, faculty and staff (including substitute faculty): up to 10 books per library (maximum 32 items), for 30 days.
  • Colégio de Aplicação primary students: up to 5 books, for 7 days.
  • Graduates registered in the alumni system: up to 5 books, for 15 days.

For further details, please refer to the Loan Regulations (in Portuguese).

In the Library OPAC (Pergamum), you’ll also find the My Pergamum section, which shows your borrowing history, fines, and renewal and request options.

Important! Don’t forget to return your item on time to avoid fines (R$1.00 per day, per overdue item).

:: ATTEND TRANING SESSIONS

During your time at UFSC, you will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of training activities: guided library tours, courses on research and academic formatting, cultural workshops, and more. Make the most of these opportunities!

Still have questions or need support? Contact our team, explore the formatting tutorials, guides, and templates on our website, and check out our online courses on the BU YouTube channel.

:: USE OUR SERVICES

Libraries offer much more than books! Discover and make use of BU services:

The BU Libraries offer a variety of study and leisure areas: individual study tables, laptop stations, group work tables, sofas, beanbags, and more – all with wireless internet access through the UFSC Network. They also regularly host art exhibitions and other cultural events. Take part and enjoy these activities, as well as our game rooms and family space.

If you’re on the Florianópolis or Araranguá campuses, you can also use the Individual and Group Study Rooms, open at different hours, including weekends and holidays.
